Golden Hour- May 21

It’s summer. I just finished my first semester at College last week. And this evening, in this so-far-grey summer, I found myself here, with my pants rolled up to respect a night and day of rain, behind my house, holding a camera in my hand.

I really have been meaning to get back to Photography soon, but I just never had the time or will to do so. And yesterday, I swore I’d get out after seeing how amazing the moments before sunset looks around here out the window. Not until today, when a good mate of mine told me that there was a “perfect time for photography,” did I know why I was so heavily attracted to this time of day. She directed me to this page after telling me about it. The way the sun shines on everything is just so gosh-darn perfect! The hues in the atmosphere, the gradients in the sky, it’s all just BEAUTIFUL!

This photo-set’s a good counterpart to my last one, in which there was more metal and concrete rather than greens and wood. The quality went down quite some because of Tumblr’s upload limit (I had to downgrade the size…a LOT)

I want to see what others see at this time… I’ll do something with this thought soon.

I don’t really know where I was going with this one. It’s from a while ago. All I remember is that I had a paper due the next day when I decided to “take a break.”

Had a mock MSA photo-shoot couple months ago for a MIST newsletter design. Never posted these up, but I wanted to just throw a couple of my favorites out there out of the bunch. These just screamed “personality” at me and became instant favorites of that day’s catch.

See the full newsletter here. Hope you enjoy!

So this is Afnan. He was processed through Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom and still maintained his natural beauty, because…. well, it’s Afnan, masha’Allah.

Capturing moments. This is how it’s done. You scream “STAY RIGHT THERE. DON’T MOVE!” It’s from a high school field trip a year or so back. Saw the perfect shot coming up the metro escalator and literally screamed exactly that.

Here’s a design couple from summer of 2011.

Being the first graduation of Al-Huda High School upon the completion of their K-12, full-time, accredited school, this called for a special design. And so, I got to it.

It was  also the first time I tried doing a minimalist design to couple my usual chaotic and colorful style. Both served the purpose fine, so I was happy either way.

These are some designs I did in 2011 for startup events/projects by 8teen13.

After, these three events, we had some road bumps to get over but alhumdulillah, we’re coming back into the scene this year with some fun projects that are under planning right now. This time, we’re here to stay and are continuing our legacy of creative recreational projects for youth of all talents and ages to take part in, insha’Allah!

This was just fun. Textures are my current thing… they just give designs that special layer of depth I’ve always wanted to know about. And of course, my chaotic-color style is clearly expressed here =)

Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.

This was my entry for this year’s (‘12) DC MIST Tournament Shirt Design Competition. It’s a pre-tournament competition in which artists competing in MIST submit designs for the official MIST shirt of the year. The winners have their shirts printed out for all 600+ students, coaches, organizers, and guests to wear.

Our team’s shirt placed 2nd place and ended up being printed as a team uniform and was open for orders for anyone that wanted to buy one.

It’s funny how we completely sold out and I’m now stuck with about 16 large-size shirts now. People are seriously shrinking over the years. Next year- no larges at all!

Too much to talk about here. Basically an first place award-winning, alhumdulillah, magazine/newsletter designed from scratch for the DC MIST 2012 tournament.

A minimalist identity design concept. As for me, I was born and partially raised in Germany. Figure it out :P

Eh, I’ll write something about this later. I just wanna’ put these out there. Fun photoshoot I did at college recently with a bunch of mates for a MIST competition =)

Note: I didn’t take the very last one, but it was part of the same project so I included it. It’s a picture taken on the same day, but she had left when I had gotten to the real shoot.

I’ve remembered with this t-shirt design how much I absolutely love working with different shades of grey. This is a shirt designed for Montgomery Blair High School’s MIST team. For those of you who don’t know what MIST is, do read about it at DCMIST’s Facebook page

The concept behind this design came from the pure creative genius of Azizah, whose clever puns and ideas always come as a fresh breeze to me =)

It was a logo design. What started out so bubbly and innocent ended up in me falling victim to my current obsession with LeagueGothic. The final result leads the set, and the rest come… tumbling after? Eh, you get the picture :P

All in all, I enjoyed this one. For the first time in my designs, I’ve actually had to literally illustrate an aspect of the design. And using primarily Adobe Illustrator for my designs, I felt like I was actually using it to it’s fullest with this design.

Come to think of it, I can see the first image turning into a wonderful business card. Anyways- Pizza Pike. It’s new. It’s great. The people are friendly. Check it out sometime and check in at their Facebook page!

Get this: I got a design request from ATLANTA, Georgia for a design needed in KNOXVILLE, Tennessee, and I live in good ol’ Maryland! Talk about networking! Well, I had fun with this one, using pretty much only one font which I’ve been holding off on for a while. League Gothic Pro has recently become a favorite of mine.

Thanks to Aleena from ATL for the connection =D
